application | tetrabutyl tribromide is a stable red solid, non-toxic, melting point 70-72 ℃, insoluble in water, soluble in chloroform, dichloromethane, ethyl acetate, acetonitrile and other organic solvents. Because tetrabutyltriammonium bromide has fixed bromine content, stable performance and easy operation, it has been widely used as an effective brominating reagent in organic synthesis. |
Preparation | In 1951, Buckles and others dissolved tetrabutyl ammonium bromide in a bromine carbon tetrachloride solution to prepare tetrabutyl ammonium tribromide. The reaction can be completed in a very short time with a yield of 91%. It is also possible to pass the bromine vapor through the tetrabutylammonium bromide solid without solvent. After the vapor is contacted with the solid for several hours, tetrabutyltriammonium bromide can be obtained with the 84% yield. In order to avoid the use of bromine, Kajigaeshi in 1987, etc. dissolved tetrabutylammonium bromide in an aqueous solution of sodium bromate, and added hydrobromic acid dropwise to the solution to prepare tetrabutylammonium tribromide, with a yield of 95% and a more convenient operation. |
